Style trends for autumn/winter 2014

Personally I love the autumn/winter season, wholey because dressing autumnally is considerably easier than dressing for the hot summer. I much prefer to wrap up in chunky knits, oversized coats, piles of woollen snoods and gorgeous soft to the touch cashmere.

Some 'must have' autumn/winter pieces from the prĂȘt-a-porter collections have been transposed through to the high street labels creating more popularity for the public. Here are some of the pieces:

Poncho blankets

-This is certainly a very popular trend for both male and females this season. I am sorry men, but you did hear me correctly. Designers such as Burberry and Sibling both showcased the "manket", (as named by GQ men's magazine) in the London Menswear Collections, which boosted the popularity amongst womenswear designers to follow suit.
Recently I purchased a bold Aztec monochrome "manket" from Primark for about £14. Other high street stores like River Island, New Look and Zara also have very good value unisex poncho blankets.

Roll-necks

-Another hugely unisex trend, they are effortlessly chic dressed up or down. Tom Ford showed us men, that it is acceptable to take a classy black suit and just add a roll-neck to add a twist on traditional black-tie dressing. In terms of womenswear, we saw roll-necks in a variation of forms, from designers such as Versace, Gucci and Stella Mccartney. At Gucci, the roll-neck had an immense feeling of sophistication and military sharpness, topped with the overpowering Italian luxury of the blush fabrics.
I recommend Zara for a good chunky but chic roll-neck.

Oversized teddy-bear coats

- Ladies, it is time to embrace the queen of the coats; the teddy-bear coat. This coat is so popular because of one lady, Kim Kardashian. Last fall she was constantly snapped wearing this coat and eventually it became a 'must have'. Yes I know you will say I simply cannot buy a £1,500 MaxMara coat, but do not worry, there are other options; Primark are selling masses of fluffy mohair coats and faux furs and Asos has great takes on the teddy-bear; therefore all is not lost.

Cartoon Accessories

-This season designers explored the fun, less severe side to the autumn/winter season. For example, we saw Anya Hindamarch create a collection of bags inspired by domestic life; such as the Ariel clutch bag. At Chanel, Lagerfeld turned the whole of the Grand Palais into a Chanel supermarket. He covered the bags in cling-film packaging, the shoes were very unique tweed-mix trainers in the most garish colour palettes. Jeremy Scott's debut collection for Moschino presented us with a flush of several fun motifs. The McDonalds idea, Sponge Bob and the Moschino gangster.
